A lead on how to remove the hatch pattern from X startup

Creating a custom Debian install CD. Still unhandled: Nice startup screens in Debian. But I bet someone's done it. We're gonna see if Ubuntu did (or someone else) and eventually gank a little work. Legally, of course.
